The Forest Preserve District of DuPage County will be hosting a number of events in the last weeks of November. If you haven’t attended any of their events in the past, they are usually a great time and suitable for the entire family (and most are free of charge too). Get out and enjoy the mild late-fall weather we’ve been having!
Monday, Nov. 22
Line Dancing for Beginners
This is set to be a fun, beginner-level line dancing class. Learn to dance to songs such as “The Electric Slide” in this class. This is an adults only class and since it is line dancing, a dance partner is not required to attend with you. The class is from 7:00PM – 8:15PM at the Mayslake Peabody Estate, 1717 W. 31st St. in Oak Brook. $10 per person. To register, call 630-206-9566.

Fullersburg Woods Bookworms
This is an open book-discussion meeting. The book to be discussed is “Power Hungry: The Myths of ‘Green’ Energy and the Real Fuels of the Future” by Robert Bryce. The event held from 7:00PM – 8:00PM at the Fullersburg Woods Nature Education Center, 3609 Spring Road in Oak Brook. This event is for ages 17 and up and costs $5 per person. Saturday, Nov. 27
Blacksmithing Demonstrations
Watch as a blacksmith repairs equipment and demonstrates the use of different blacksmithing tools and techniques. This is a great family event that runs from 1:30PM – 3:30PM (you can stop in anytime during these hours). The event is held at the wagon shed at Kline Creek Farm, 1N600 County Farm Road in West Chicago. This event is free and requires no registration.
Candy for the Holidays
This event features information on how to make colorful hard candies. You will also receive recipes to take home and try for yourself. This event will surely be enjoyed by the whole family. The candy-making event is held from 12:30PM – 3:30PM (the event is 30 min. long and begins on the half-hour) at Kline Creek Farm, 1N600 County Farm Road in West Chicago. This is another free event that requires no registration.
Quail-Wagon Tours
Enjoy a brisk, sunny fall day with a guided quail-wagon ride at St. James Farm in Warrenville. On this tour you will learn about the nature and cultural history of St. James Farm. Stop in anytime between 11:00AM – 3:00PM. The event is located at St. James Farm Forest Preserve in Warrenville at Madison Street and Hoy Avenue and costs $5 per person ages 13 and up; $4 per senior over 55; $2 per child ages 5 – 12; children under 5 free. Registration is not required.
