Four Lakes Ski Lisle

We’ve already experienced a few snow flurries in DuPage County, and for some people, the sight of snow falling means that the winter fun season is about to begin!  For many of us living in and around DuPage County, skiing is a big part of that winter fun.  Even though we live in the relatively flat Midwest, there are still some great local ski options available to us. 

Let’s take a look at some ski resorts that are nearby.  Some of these are located within the boundaries of DuPage County, but the bigger resorts will require some driving.  Here’s a list of ski resorts (by distance) in the area:

Four Lakes Village Lodge and Ski – Lisle, IL

For ease-of-access, located in DuPage County, you can’t beat Four Lakes.  Though small, this ski hill offers mountain-size family skiing fun.  Four Lakes is the perfect option for the beginning or very young skier (ski lessons are also offered on-site).

There are no chair lifts at Four Lakes, but tow-ropes are available.

Villa Olivia – Bartlett, IL

Ski Season: Dec. 15, 2011-March 4, 2012

Downhill skiing, snowboarding and snowtubing are all available at Villa Olivia.  Villa Olivia is the largest local ski resort in Chicagoland.  Take a quick drive north on Route 59 to Lake Street, go west about one mile, and you’re there.  Villa Olivia offers some great skiing very near to home.

Alpine Valley Ski Resort – Elkhorn, WI

Not too far from Lake Geneva in Elkhorn, WI, you’ll find some great slopes at Alpine Valley Ski Resort.  This is a great ski resort for the intermediate-level skier.  Don’t let the Wisconsin address scare you off either, you can be there in less than 2.5 hours.

Cascade Mountain – Portage, WI

North of the Illinois border in Wisconsin, you’ll find Cascade Mountain (very near the Wisconsin Dells).   Skiing is always a good time at Cascade; it is worth the drive.  There is a wide variety of slopes available for the entire family and skill-level (beginner to advanced).
