The DuPage County Forest Preserve District has announced the “Just For Kids Fishing Derby” for little kids and big kids under the age of 15. The derby will take place at the Blackwell Forest Preserve in Warrenville on Sunday, June 12th from 8AM – 12PM. This is a free, family-friendly event featuring promotional item giveaways and a casting contest in addition to the fishing derby. There will be prizes for kids in four age groups for the largest catch in each of the following categories: bass, bluegill, and miscellaneous.
Fishing gear is not supplied for the fishing derby, so please bring your fishing rods and tackle boxes. Bait will be provided while supplies last, but you may want to bring your own bait just in case supplies run out. Participants can register on the morning of the fishing derby at Blackwell. To speed up the registration process, visit the DuPage County Forest Preserve District website and print a copy of the registration form to bring along on the morning of the derby.
Blackwell Forest Preserve, one of the finest preserves in DuPage, is located on the north side of Butterfield Road (just east of Batavia Road) in Warrenville. Using the main entrance at this location, follow the preserve drive north for about one half-mile to Silver Lake. There is plenty of parking in a large lot just south of the lake.
Catch a big one!
