Yesterday was the last day of fall and today is the first official day of winter.
My first official winter morning was spent digging out the two-foot-high pile of snow that the city snowplows so graciously left me at the end of my driveway. Yes, it is a bit irritating, but really, what are they supposed to do? Besides it’s pretty hard to complain about snow piles at the end of my driveway when the city really does do a heck of a job keeping the roads clear. It’s also hard to complain when the newly-fallen snow is lining the trees and gives everything a fairytale look.
I’m telling myself how beautiful the snow and winter and plowing is because, after all this is the first day of winter, and we better learn to like it, because it’s going to be a long one. We’ve already had snow on the ground and freezing temperatures for weeks… Maybe, just maybe, I can convince myself that winter is enjoyable.
Happy first day of winter!
