DuPage Mothers & More!

Mothers have a challenging role in today’s society. In the not-so-distant past, a mother’s primary role was that of care-giver for the children. Today, many mothers have part-time or full-time careers in addition to the demands of primary care-giver for the children. The lack of available time can severly limit a mother’s access to a fulfilling social-life and communal support.

DuPage Mother’s & More is a non-profit organization that may be the answer for many mothers living in the DuPage County area.

The DuPage Mother’s & More Mission Statement
Mothers & More is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of mothers through support, education and advocacy. We address mothers’ needs as individuals and members of society, and promote the value of all the work mothers do.

The following is an excerpt from the DuPage Mothers & More that provides an excellent description of what it is that the organization does:

“Our chapters are structured to support a mother as she navigates the challenges of her daily life – whether she is a full-time family caregiver or struggling to achieve a better balance between the demands of paid work and family care.

Through our chapters and other services, we provide opportunities for mothers to connect with one another in ways that assist them in developing their unique identities as women and help them move more confidently through the transitions that affect their family, work and life.

Mothers & More champions the value and necessity of all mothers’ work to our society – paid and unpaid, within and outside of the home. We strive to raise awareness about the fact that mothers live and work in a society that presents significant barriers to their ability to succeed as women, citizens, parents or participants in the workforce. By uniting mothers to act on their own behalf, we seek to eliminate policies, practices and attitudes that unfairly impact mothers as caregivers.

Mothers & More is for ALL mothers, those who are presently at home full-time, those working part-time in or outside of their home, and mothers working full-time.”

This is an active organization that meets regularly (twice each month). In addition to the monthly meetings, there is a book club that meets the second Tuesday of each month, as well as playgroups. Membership is open to all mothers living in DuPage County. It is recommended that you attend three meetings prior to becoming a dues-paying member (the annual membership dues are $45).

DuPage Mothers & More will be holding their Bi-annual Clothing and Toy Resale Fundraiser on September 11, 2010. The event is held at the DuPage County Fairgrounds in Wheaton (at Manchester and County Farm roads). The public sale is Saturday 7:30am – 12pm, and the Half Price Sale is from 1pm – 2:30pm.
