Garage sales in DuPage County are going to be abundant this year.  With a tough economy and job-market, many households will be looking to raise a little extra money via garage sales.  If you are planning to have a  garage sale in DuPage County, be sure you have obtained the required permits (where necessary).  You don’t want your garage sale earnings to be spent paying a petty

It seems that there is no requirement standard when it comes to hosting a garage sale in DuPage County.  Each DuPage County village/city has there own garage sale permit requirements. 

Below is a list (by city) of the requirements and garage sale permit details that residents must meet when hosting a garage sale in their town…

Addison – Garage Sale Information
– A garage sale permit is required.
– Two sales per year plus one moving sale.
– There is no city or permit garage sale fee.
– Maximum of three consecutive days each sale, 8 a.m. to dusk.
– For group sales, each hgousehold must get a permit.
– All signs must be on private property, have house numbers and dates on them, and be removed within three hours of the sale’s end.
– Permits available at the reception desk of Village Hall, 1 Friendship Plaza, Addison, IL 60101. (630) 543-4100.

Bensenville – Garage Sale Information
– A garage sale permit is required.
– One sale per year, in addition to the annual Pride Week garage sale event.
– There is no city or permit garage sale fee.
– Maximum of three consecutive days each sale, 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.
– Signs allowed on private property only.
– Permits available online at bensenville.il.us or from the director of community development, 12 S. Center St. Bensenville, IL 60106. (630) 350-3411.

Bloomingdale – Garage Sale Information
– No permit required, but residents must register sales with the police department prior to the start of the sale.
– There is no city or permit garage sale fee.
– Three sales per year.
– Maximum of three consecutive days per sale, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
– No signs on public property, street light poles, utility poles, street sign or traffic sign poles, on or within vehicles, or in places where they obstruct the clear view of traffic.

Burr Ridge – Garage Sale Information
– No garage sale permit required.
– There is no city or permit garage sale fee.
– Signs permitted between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays.
– Signs may not be placed in the public right of way.

Carol Stream – Garage Sale Information
– Permit not required unless sale is larger than 96 square feet in area or 8 feet in height.
– There is no city or permit garage sale fee.
– A temporary sign is allowed in driveway or in garage.

Clarendon Hills – Garage Sale Information
– A garage sale permit is required.
– Applications for permits must be received by PD at least 7 days before sale
– Fee of $10.
– Two sales per year.
– Maximum of three consecutive days each sale.
– Permit must be displayed during sale.
– Signs on private property only.

Darien – Garage Sale Information
– A garage sale permit is required.
– Three sales per year.
– Sales on Thursday, Friday, Saturday or Sunday only, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m..
– There is no city or permit garage sale fee.
– No sign restrictions
– Permits available at city hall, 1702 Plainfield Road, Darien, IL 60561. (630) 353-8114.

Downers Grove – Garage Sale Information
– No garage sale permit required.
– Four sales per year.
– There is no city or permit garage sale fee.
– Maximum of four consecutive days each sale.
– Signs may be placed in the public right of way on Friday, Saturday and Sunday of the weekend that the sale will take place.
– Signs may be posted only between the 5 a.m. Friday and 10 p.m. Sunday, and must be no larger than four feet, do not have distracting images, and are not attached to any utility pole. Each sale sign must have attached to it by an adhesive label or other means the name, address and telephone number of the person responsible.

– No garage sale permit required.
– Two sales per year.
– There is no city or permit garage sale fee.
– All signs must be posted on the sale holder’s property only.

– No garage sale permit required.
– Two sales per year.
– Maximum of three consecutive days per sale.
– There is no city or permit garage sale fee.
– Maximum of three signs, kept on private property.

Glendale Heights – Garage Sale Information
– A garage sale permit is required.
– Two sales per year.
– Fee of $5.
– Maximum of three consecutive days, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
– Signs must indicate the days, hours and address of the sale.

Hinsdale – Garage Sale Information
– No garage sale permit required.
– Three sales per year.
– Signs may be no more than six square feet, and placed entirely on the sale property and must be clearly marked with the name, address and telephone number of the person responsible for the sign’s removal.
– Signs can not be placed more than 24 hours before the sale and must be removed within 24 hours of the sales’s end.
– No ground sign may be higher than 4 feet or closer to any lot line than six feet.

– No restrictions on number of sales per year or consecutive days.
– Signs may not be on public property or utility poles.

– A garage sale permit is required.
– There is no city or permit garage sale fee.
– Two sales per year.
– Maximum of two consecutive days, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
– No sale items can be placed on a public sidewalk, parkway area or other public property.
– All signs on private property only.
– The signs should indicate the address and date of the sale.
– All signs must be removed no later than three hours after the conclusion of the sale.

Roselle – Garage Sale Information
– No garage sale permit required.
– There is no city or permit garage sale fee.
– Two sales per year.
– Maximum of three consecutive days each.
– Signs may be placed at the curb in residential areas.
– No sign may obstruct or interfere with traffic lanes or traffic control signals or signs.
– Signs may not exceed six square feet.
– Signs must be removed at the conclusion of the event.

Villa Park – Garage Sale Information
– No garage sale permit required.
– There is no city or permit garage sale fee.
– Two sales per year.
– Maximum of three consecutive days each sale.
– Signs on the household’s private property only, not on the parkway, light poles or stop signs, or on corners in public right of way.

Warrenville – Garage Sale Information
– Permit not required.
– Maximum of 10 days per sale.
– Signs may not be larger than six square feet per face.
– Signs may be placed off site on private property with the consent of the owner of the property.
– One sign may be placed in the city right of way in front of the house holding the sale.
– Signs may not be posted more than 24 hours before the sale and must be removed at the end of the sale.
– The name and phone number of the person responsible for removing the sign must be on each sign.

Wheaton – Garage Sale Information
