On Friday, November 25th (the day after Thanksgiving), check out one of the many Christmas tree lighting events in DuPage County. Get your kids and the whole family into holiday fun and spirits!
Of the tree-lighting events listed below, my personal favorite is the Glen Ellyn event. The tree lighting takes place right in the heart of downtown Glen Ellyn at Main Street and Crescent Blvd. The setting is very much like that of a Norman Rockwell painting. The entire family is sure to enjoy it!
Downers Grove Tree Lighting Ceremony – 4:30PM
Countdown with the mayor as Downers Grove lights up the Christmas tree at the Main Street Train Station in downtown Downers Grove. The tree will be decorated with over 1,000 handmade ornaments created by local children. The Downers Grove Choral Society will lead attendees in songs of the season. Refreshments will be served inside the train station.
Glen Ellyn Tree Lighting Event – 5:30PM to 9PM
Santa will light the tree at 6PM at Main Street and Crescent Blvd in downtown Glen Ellyn. After the tree lighting, children are welcome to visit with Santa at Fire Station #1 (Main Street and Pennsylvania Avenue) until 8:30PM. Downtown shops and restaurants will stay open late for this event. This event is sponsored by the Glen Ellyn Chamber of Commerce.
Naperville Hometown Holidays Kickoff – 4:30PM to 6:30PM
The Friends of Little Friends Electric Lights Parade and Grand Illumination kickoff at 4:30PM in downtown Naperville. After the parade, Santa will light up more than 400,000 lights adorning the downtown Naperville area. Enjoy shopping and refreshments throughout the downtown area after the lighting.
Wheaton Lighted Holiday Parade – 6PM
Santa makes his special arrival in downtown Wheaton at the tree lighting ceremony. Horse-drawn carriage rides will be available. Get into the Christmas spirit as carolers sing your favorite Christmas songs. Area shops will be offering special deals to kick-off your holiday shopping.
