There are many available tutoring options available to students in DuPage County. Below is a list of local and national tutoring services to assist students from kindergarten through college.
Sylvan Learning Centers
Sylvan offers comprehensive, fee-based tutoring services via centers located throughout DuPage County. Sylvan Learning Centers are available in the following locations: Woodridge, Naperville, Aurora, and Wheaton (More location information can be found here. Sylvan will evaluate the student’s current level and formulate a tutoring plan accordingly. Located in Naperville, Mathnasium offers math tutoring to students from elementary school through high school ages. Mathnasium offers customized, individual tutoring provided by certified instructors. The center is located at Route 59 and 95th Street. Glen Ellyn Tutoring and Testing Center
Located in Glen Ellyn (526 Crescent Blvd., Suite 208), the Tutoring Center offers tutoring to students in a wide variety of subjects. Learning plans are customized to the individual student’s needs. More information can be found here.
Huntington Learning Center
Huntington appears to focus on math and science related tutoring, but may offer tutoring in additional subjects (location-dependent). Tutoring services are directed primarily towards secondary and college level students and they specialize in test preparation. College of DuPage Tutoring Service
The College of DuPage offers various tutoring services that are mostly geared to students currently enrolled at the college. Tutoring is offered in various formats including peer tutoring, online tutoring, and one-on-one tutoring. Some of the services are free while others require a small fee. Literacy DuPage English Tutoring
Literacy DuPage offers free ESL (English as a second language) tutoring to adults over the age of 16 years. Tutoring services are are focused on the English language in the following areas: comprehension, reading and writing, and English speaking. Elementary Tutoring (Online Programs)
Kaplan offers their Kaplan Kids online tutoring and learning program available for students in grades K-8. This internet-based program is setup to assess your student’s needs and measure you child’s progress along the way. The program is available for a monthly fee, but there is a 7-day free trial offer available on the website. You can visit the Kaplan Kids website here.
You can find listing for individual, one-on-one tutors on websites like Craigslist.org and Wyzant.com, or through your school or district administration offices. Be sure to ask for references (and check them thoroughly) and only hire reputable tutors. Only work with experienced tutors who have a background in education.
